Topanga Afternoon with Kirsty Hume and Violet
Meeting Kirsty and her daughter Violet and having the opportunity to shoot with them together, was a definitive moment for us. For KK, Kirsty has been a constant muse - her multifaceted beauty, strength, and ethereal aura is something KK always is inspired by and designs into. For HW, she was always the one that got away - Hilary wanted to shoot her for multiple projects prior to our shoot. For me, Kirsty represented the real deal - a truly conscious mom living and raising her daughter in a way that is so far removed from the norm of growing up in LA and LA adjacent. We were connected to Kirsty by our dear friend @maracarrizoscalise. Mara learned that we were doing production of hand knits in Peru and that we were interested in talking to knitters. Kirsty is an avid knitter and painter, she teaches workshops on natural dye techniques at the Spirit Weavers Gathering. She is also a committed environmentalist. Both Kirsty and Violet are involved in the conscious study of Deep Nature Connection which seeks to explore and dismantle a notion that human beings are separate from the natural world. We were so thrilled with the magical day we spent with them at their Topanga home and the photos that resulted. We feel they evoke the nature warrior mama Kirsty is through and through - diligent, gentle and teaching her cub in their wild natural California backyard.
