Styling Notes: Our Summer Collection

Our Summer collection is a delight for the senses—a swirl of textural jacquards, block-printed florals and intricate crochet, punctuated with pops of golden yellows. There are extra-special pieces for garden parties and dinners al fresco, light-as-air cotton delights for the stretch of long days on the beach, and, in line with Summer’s laid-back simplicity, no shortage of throw-on-and-go dresses and matching sets. We headed to Harbour Island in the Bahamas to shoot the collection, where we soaked up the pink sand beaches, traversed the island via golf cart, and played hours-long games of backgammon in our downtime.

In the spirit of Summer, we’ve gathered a few of our favorite styling notes from the shoot—as with every shoot, the looks are not only a collaborative affair between model, photographer, and our team, but also reflect the real ways that we’ve been wearing the collection. We hope these cues inspire you to savor the pleasures of the season, even if that’s just tucking a flower behind salty post-swim hair.

A Matching Scarf

Vintage scarves have always been a styling staple for us, and, this Summer, we’re gravitating towards a matching moment, whether our floral jacquard Leona Dress with its coordinating scarf belt, or our Penny Bandana in Marilyn Gingham styled back to gingham tops and swimwear. And, we’re thrilled to soon introduce a DÔEN Heirloom silky iteration of the Petit Penny, with an intricate hand-painted Coquillages des Biarritz print that matches back to our '60s-inspired Malia Dress and the open-back Nami Top and wrap Lina Skirt.

A Forever Favorite: The Jane Blouse

One of the first styles Katherine designed back in 2016, our forever-favorite Jane Blouse is a wear-everywhere silhouette that was inspired by an antique French chemise nightshirt. We returned to it again and again on the shoot, throwing it on over swimsuits—the light-as-air cotton voile means it’ll dry quickly in the sun, and it's polished enough to be buttoned up for dinners al fresco.

A Raffia Finish

Nothing feels as quintessentially Summer as a raffia accessory, whether our hand-woven Grande Mathilde Bag—the perfect beach or travel carry-all—or a vintage oversized hat. Our team used the Grande Mathilde both on set—to cart around shoot supplies!—and for mornings spent at the beach.

The Ease of a Matching Set

The carefree ease of long summer days calls for simple dressing, and coordinating sets are a foolproof approach to getting dressed this time of year. Whether in softly structured linen, smocked lace, or intricate hand crochet, these warm-weather sets are polished yet easy to slip into after a long day in the sun.

Just Add Water

To pull together nearly every look, we found ourselves reaching for shell necklaces and anklets designed by our dear friend Beatrice Valenzuela. Delicate beads, iridescent pearls, and shell charms caught the sun’s glint, and we love the bit of dressed-up shimmer they added to a beach look. A hand-selection of Beatrice’s pieces can be found in our Shops, too. For added mermaid vibes, we packed our team’s favorite hair styling product, a ROZ Milk Serum by our friend Mara Rozak, which we’d run through our hair after a salty swim for a perfectly undone coiffure. (Psst, we’re working on something special with the team at ROZ coming soon…)

Sun-Drenched Yellows

Shades of golden yellow are scattered throughout our Summer collection, rendered in floaty silk, drapey floral jacquard, and intricate pointelle. With a sense of optimism in tow, we're loving styling yellows with bright whites, too.
